Junior High Book Recommendations

Every student can use extra help with reading.  As students mature we hope they will become stronger readers.  Below are some standards set by the state of Illinois in reading.  With each standard there are activities, links, and worksheets students can use.

Standard:  Students should be able to identify the author’s purpose for writing something. 

Standard: Find the main idea and supporting details.

Standard:  Students will be able to identify all of the story elements and the plot structure of a narrative story. 

Standard:  Students will be able to create new words by adding prefixes and suffixes to root words.

Standard:  Students will be able to recognize cause and effect relationships in texts. 

Standard:  Students will be able to understand the meaning of words by using context clues.
