H1N1 Information

North Palos School District 117 has decided NOT to participate in the Cook County Health Department’s H1N1 vaccination program. The decision was based on the County not being able to provide us with a definitive date for the vaccines and the fact that vaccines are now readily available for free at several neighborhood locations, including the Bridgeview Courthouse and the Palos Township Clinic  Residents of Palos Township can receive free H1N1 vaccinations. Please call 708-598-2441 (during clinic hours) for an appointment. Residents of Palos Township will need to bring a driver’s license as proof of residency.

Flu Prevention Tips: It is important that we take H1N1 flu (formerly called swine flu) seriously and do what we can to stop its spread. Both the H1N1 and seasonal flu can spread easily from person to person. Please join the Health Department and the school district in taking steps to reduce the spread of both types of influenza, provide a safe and healthy environment and keep the schools open.

To help keep yourself and family from getting sick, you can follow “The Three Cs”:

• Clean Your Hands: Teach your children to wash their hands often with soap and water or hand sanitizer. You can set a good example by doing this yourself.

• Cover Your Cough: Teach your children to cover their coughs and sneezes with tissues or by using an elbow, arm or sleeve when one isn’t handy. Teach them not to share personal items like drinks, food or unwashed utensils.

• Contain Illness: Keep sick children at home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever (temperature of 100 degrees or more) or do not have signs of fever, without using fever-reducing drugs such as Tylenol, Advil and Motrin. Keeping children at home will help them get better faster and, at the same time, help stop the spread of influenza.
