Pupil Personnel Services provides programs for students with unique educational needs. These programs include:
- Title I services provides enriched reading instruction to at-risk students in second through eighth grade. This reinforces the district commitment to emphasize high expectations for all children, focus on improvements, and development of stronger partnerships among schools, parents and community.
- Transitional Program of Instruction provides support to students who are Limited English Proficient. The goal of this program is to accelerate the academic achievement levels of students who must also learn English as they participate in regular classrooms.
- Special Education These programs provide educational services with students with disabilities in a continuum of educational environments. The Southwest Cook County Special Education Cooperative services some students with low incidence disabilities.
- Speech and language services consist of screening, diagnosis, and therapy of students with speech and/or language impairments. The speech and language staff assist students following areas of communication: voice quality, fluency of speech, ability to product speech sounds, ability to understand and use language appropriate to chronological age and the ability of the student to use the speech mechanism (tongue, teeth, lips, etc.).
- School Psychologist Services Upon referral for a Special Education Case Study Evaluation, a certified school psychologist may evaluate the student to determine if the student has a disability which requires special education and/or related services.
- School Social Work Services are available to assist students in group as well as individual sessions. School social workers work with students on social skills, getting along with others, character development and dealing with emotional issues.
- The Safe and Drug Free School Grant provides programs to prevent violence in and around schools as well as programs that prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs. A committee of community members, parents and district staff monitor the grant activities.
- Health Screenings for vision and hearing are conducted as required by law under the Illinois Department of Public Health.
