Residency Requirements

BOUNDARIES
The South side of 87th Street to the North side of 107th Street.
The West Side of Harlem to the East Side of LaGrange Road.

STUDENT RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR NORTH PALOS SCHOOL DISTRICT 117
Registration Documents Required:
A minimum of one document is required –
*Mortgage papers identifying name of child’s parent/guardian
*Real Estate Tax Bill identifying name of child’s parent/guardian
*Property Title identifying child’s parent/guardian
*Copy of lease signed by landlord identifying child’s parent/guardian

A minimum of two documents is required –
*Current Utility Bills
*Car Insurance
*Voter’s Registration
REGULAR US MAIL IS NOT ACCEPTABLE
DRIVERS LICENSE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE

Documents Required From Child’s Parent/Guardian:
*Original Birth Certificate
*Social Security Number For Transfer Students Entering Our District:
*Transfer Papers from previous school showing current grades/attendance
*If Illinois School – Good Standings Form
*If outside State or Country - a complete physical exam with immunization record checked by a physician in the State of Illinois

In Addition, if you are residing with another legal resident in our District, you will also need ALL of the following:
*A notarized affidavit stating where you live (address) and with whom you are living (Forms available at Administrative Office)
*A notarized affidavit from you "host" family stating that you reside with them (Forms available at Administrative Office)
*Proof of ownership of property from the "host" family.  (Acceptable documents include: a signed lease, a bill for the house, a closing statement or a recent property tax bill)
*TWO proofs of occupancy from the "host" family. (Acceptable documents include: current utility bill, telephone bill)
*You must provide us with TWO proofs of occupancy.  (Acceptable documents include: voter's registration card, current legal mail i.e., bank statements, insurance documents, governmental correspondences or bills received at the residency)

If proper documentation is not provided after one month or it is discovered that you are not actually residing in the district, your student will be dropped from our school enrollment and you will be liable for the payment of out-of-district tuition for the time your student was in attendance at North Palos School District 117.

Students not meeting the above criteria are not legal residents of the school district, and the district shall not permit them to enroll. Legally resident students who are properly enrolled at the beginning of the school year and who subsequently move out of the district may complete the school year in which they enrolled on a resident student basis.

Students residing within the district with someone other than a natural or custodial parent must petition the Board of Education to establish resident status prior to the commencement of the school year. Students may not enroll in the district until the Board of Education has acted on the petition.

Any student enrolled in the district whom the Superintendent or other administrator has cause to believe is not a resident of the district, as defined above, shall be sent a preliminary Notice of Non-Residency by the administration, by certified and regular mail. Students or their representatives shall be offered a meeting with the Superintendent or designee, at which time the student or representative may offer information to establish the student's resident status as defined above.

The decision of the Superintendent or designee shall be final unless the student or his/her representative seeks review of the decision by the board of Education, in which case the Board's decision shall be final. The student shall remain enrolled in school pending a final decision.

* A valid passport is required to register students from outside the United States.
