Conrady Nominated for a National Blue Ribbon Award

They're walking a little taller and their smiles are a little brighter these days inside the newly renovated Conrady Junior High School.

And with good reason.

Students and staff learned that their school recently was nominated for a National Blue Ribbon School Award, a highly coveted national award bestowed on only a small number of schools.

Schools nominated and who receive the award are those that achieve high levels of academic performance or who make significant improvements in closing the achievement gap in where at least 40 percent of students are classified as disadvantaged.

Conrady is the highest-performing school in the state in its demographic category. For years, Conrady has performed like a top-rated school and now it is receiving the recognition.

The 1,100-student junior high school also is undergoing a physical transformation as well in the form of a massive renovation that includes an eight-classroom addition; upgraded kitchen and lunch serving area (Conrady prepares meals for all the district's schools); replacement ceilings and lights throughout the building; fully renovated and redesigned locker rooms; the installation of a fire sprinkler system; renovation of of all remaining restrooms and, classrooms, PPS and safe work areas; replacement of flooring and paint in the cafeteria and the renovation of a more efficient, community-friendly and SAFER main entrance and office area with new offices.
