My name is Brian Boam and I am happy to have your child as their physical education teacher. About myself, this is my 10th year at District 117. I live in the western suburbs with my two beautiful, smart, loving children who are 7.5 years old (first grade) and 3.5 years old.
Some of my favorites are...
Watching the Cubbies, Bears, Blackhawks, and Duke Basketball.
My favorite food is pizza.
My favorite color is blue.
My favorite animal is a grizzly bear.
I love ALL types of music, you would be suprised. :)
In physical education class we will be active for the full 42 minutes. I see the first graders three times a week, so it’s important we use all of this gym time to the full benefit. It is also important to make sure your child is active outside of school. Organized sports is a great way to have your child stay active, but as well as meeting new friends and working on sportsmanship. Studies have shown children who are active for at least 60 minutes a day have better mental health and perform better in school, compared to children who are not regularly active.
Our class always begins with warm-ups. We start off by stretching our bodies than working on locomotor skills (walking, running, skipping, galloping,etc.). In class we play many different games and activities that work not only on physical fitness, but math, reading, and spelling as well.
It is important that you and I work together to keep your child as healthy, physically active as we can. The best way to see videos and pictures is to follow me at @MrBoamNPD117
