Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. A. Leyden
I grew up in Hickory Hills and had lived there until I was 25, so I grew up attending North Palos 117. I am the youngest of five children. I have three older brothers and a sister who lives in Maryland. My parents, who were both amazing to all of us, should be declared saints for raising five pretty "great" kids. My mom is still with us and lives in Plainfield. I am the proud aunt of 6 wonderful nephews and nieces ranging in age from 21 to 7. I now live in Lombard with my husband Bill. We have been married for nine years and are the proud parents of our 4 year old Gerald Patrick and 16 month old William Thomas. Being a mom of two boys has been quite an adventure so far.
When I am not busy at school I love to spend time with family and friends. My other interests are in reading, cooking, and baking. Whenever I need to relax I tend to engage in one of these activities.
Sounds cheesey but from a very early age I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. There was a second grade teacher in this very district, who inspired me at the age of 8. I graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelors of Education in 2004. Shortly after I went back to get my master's degree as a reading specialist. I have just earned my National Board Certification in reading. It was a fun but hard process to complete. I am entering my fourteenth year of teaching first grade in North Palos 117.
