    Welcome to 5A

Welcome to fifth grade at Oak Ridge! I am very excited to begin another great school year, and cannot wait to get to know all of your children. My name is Mrs. Turnock and this is my tenth year teaching in North Palos School District 117. This year I will be teaching English Language Arts (ELA) to my homeroom and Mrs. Dempsey's homeroom. In both reading and writing we will be following the Common Core Learning Standards. During reading and writing, we will be implementing 4 common core units, 1 unit per quarter. (Battling Adversity, Human Rights, Exploration- a novel study, and personal perspectives of conflict during WWII)

Getting to Know Me... I graduated from Illinois State University with my degree in Elementary Education. After graduation I began my teaching career in North Palos District 117, and I wouldn't want to work anywhere else. Recently I received my Masters in Education: Reading Specialist degree from Olivet Nazarene. My husband and I have an energetic Black Labrador Retriever named Axl, who we enjoy taking for walks. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, playing volleyball, and going shopping. I have a love for learning and hope to instill it among all of my students!
