Students should be reading for at least 20 minutes every night for homework. The more we read, the smarter we become!
If you would like to help your child become a stronger reader, here are some comprehension questions you can ask to support their learning:
Who was the main character in the story? How do you know?
Where did the story take place? What details help you visualize the setting?
What was the problem in the story? Can you prove it with text evidence?
What was the solution to the problem? Can you prove it with text evidence?
What was the central message? How do you know?
What was your favorite part of the story? Why?
Retell the story using the beginning, middle and end.
