Sorrick Asset Program
Assets is an after school student enrichment program for K-1 students identified as not at grade level in reading or math. Students are selected to participate in this program based on local assessments (Fountas & Pinnell level) and i-Ready scores. This 3 day-a-week program starts in October and runs through March. Students move in and out of Assets throughout the year based on ongoing formative assessments and Winter assessments at mid year. Asset students meet three days a week for an hour each day from 3:30 - 4:30 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Bus transportation is provided for those that need bus service.
The Assets reading program engages students in word work, vocabulary, comprehension (Guided Reading) and writing. Students also use Raz-Kids (an online, adaptive leveled reading program) to help students become independent and fluent readers. The Assets math program focuses on building foundational skills with a focus on counting and cardinality, counting objects, rote counting, number sense of quantity, counting on and back, operations of addition and subtraction, composing and decomposing numbers, the application of mathematical foundational skills within the problem-solving process.
Asset Teachers use multiple classroom materials, leveled readers, Reading A-Z printable books, trade books, and manipulatives to meet the needs of their students. We have found our Assets program to be very successful in promoting student grow in reading or math and look forward to working with your child. If you have questions at any time, please contact Mrs. Jessica Roubik, Team Leader at 233-5797, or your child's Assets teacher.
