Recommendations from the Health Office

When and for how long do I keep my child home from school?

  1. When your child has a fever of 99.5 or higher.  They should stay home until they have been fever free WITHOUT ANY FEVER REDUCERS for 24 hours.
  2. When your child has vomiting or diarrhea.  They should stay home until they have not had an episode for 24 hours.
  3. When your child has an unexplained rash.  They should return once they have seen a doctor to determine if they are contagious.
  4. When your child has pink eye.  They may return with a doctor's note after drops have been used for 24 hours.
  5. When your child has strep throat.  They may return with a doctor's note once they have been on antibiotics for 24 hours.

Keeping children home by these guidelines helps prevent the spread of illness.  These are recommendations from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
