Mustangs Enjoy Another Virtual Author Visit and Spirit Week

Oak Ridge continues the tradition of “One Book One School” organized by our Media Specialist Mrs. McMillin. All the students have been given a copy of The Adventures of a South Pole Pig  by Chris Kurtz. The book is about a pig named Flora who wishes to be a sled dog in the Iditarod Race. As an extension to the book, the students in each class at Oak Ridge wrote a class letter and sent it to a musher in the real Iditarod Race of 2021. The race began on Saturday, March 6th. Each classroom has been tracking their mushers progress in the race as they continue to enjoy the book. To celebrate the book and the race, the students participated in spirit days during the week of March 8th. Stuffed dog/animal day, winter hat/scarf day, and flannel Friday were the creative themes. On Friday, we had a virtual author visit with the author of The Adventures of a South Pole Pig Chris Kurtz. The entire school enjoyed the author visit, and many mustangs were able to ask the author their burning questions about the book and his writing process. Thank you to Mrs. McMillin for organizing these events for us! See the fun we had below!
