Glen Oaks Named A Top-Performing Suburban School

Glen Oaks School was named a top-performing school in suburban Chicago based on a number of factors including academic performance, attendance and per-pupil spending.

The second- through fifth-grade Hickory Hills' school was ranked 9th among the top-20 highest-performing schools in the Chicago suburbs, according to Chicago Magazine's latest quadrennial rankingof the best public schools. Glen Oaks was ranked 13th two years ago.

Glen Oaks has the second-highest enrollment (680 students) of all 20 schools and was the second-lowest in per-pupil spending at $7,005.

Other critieria used to rank schools included the 5Essentials Report (which takes into account effetive leaders, collaborative teachers, ambitious instruction, supportive environment and involved families) and the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), which is a state assessment and accountability measure for Illinois students enrolled in a public school district. 

PARCC assesses the new Illinois Learning Standards incorporating the Common Core and is administered in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
