District 117 Hosts Discussion on Property Tax Relief (Grant)

North Palos School District 117 hosted an informational session Monday regarding a new property tax relief grant that is available from the State that would allow some school districts in our area to reduce local property taxes and get partially reimbursed from the State.

More than a dozen school district administrators, along with State Rep. Kelly Burke and State Sen. Bill Cunningham and Bloom Township Schools Treasurer Rob Grossi, attended the discussion that was held in the District 117 board room. Debbie Chafee, a parent volunteer in NPD 117 who has been actively engaged in the State education funding discussion for the past five years provided an overview of the benefits to our area.  Members from the Illinois State Board of Education gave a presentation on the new Property Tax Relief Grant and answered questions from those in attendance.

The North Palos School District 117 Board of Education earlier this month voted to apply for $4 million in property tax relief through the grant program.  The Illinois State Board of Education will publish the list of school districts that are awarded the grant in February.
