Kevin Buscemi Named Principal at Oak Ridge


The North Palos School District 117 board of education has approved the appointment of Kevin Buscemi as the new principal at Oak Ridge School in Palos Hills. An Evergreen Park native, Mr. Buscemi currently serves as the school’s assistant principal. He will begin his new position on July 1.

He replaces Beth Reich, who took a principal position in Flossmoor School District 161.

Mr. Buscemi said while he is excited about the opportunity to serve the community as building principal, he’s most excited about “being part of a tremendous team that consistently does great things for kids.”

“It’s not about the title (of principal),” he said. “It really is about being part of a community of amazing teachers, parents and kids who work hard every single day.”

Mr. Buscemi said “drive, determination and that never give up attitude” have served him well in his professional career. So has having a keen focus and being supportive of staff and kids.”

He said that he and Beth and (team leader) Dave Creagan work well together and he expects that same camaraderie to continue. The district is searching for an assistant principal.

Mr.Buscemi, who lives in Westmont, graduated from Evergreen Park High School and Millikin University where he received his Bachelor’s degree. He moved to New York where he tried his hand in acting before returning to the Chicagoland area to complete a Master’s Degree from Governor’s State University.

He has served as a teacher at Conrady; a math team leader at Oak Ridge and Glen Oaks; a team leader at Oak Ridge and assistant principal at Oak Ridge.

Mr. Buscemi is an avid Bears’ and Cubs’ fan. He also enjoys playing a few chords on his guitar, reading (non-fiction) and traveling. Hawaii is his favorite.
