Jennifer Stefan Named Assistant Principal at Oak Ridge

Jennifer Stefan grew up in Southern Illinois in a family where both her mom and dad were teachers. She didn’t know it then, but her future was already being shaped to follow in their footsteps.

“I really thought that I wanted to do something different than my parents,” she said. “But I saw how much they both loved their jobs and that really had an impact on me. Plus, they were both home in the summer and we were able to do so much as a family.”

After graduating from high school she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Southern Illinois University. She would later earn two Master’s Degrees, one in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University and a second in School Administration from Concordia University.

For the last 17 years, Ms. Stefan has been doing so much for her students as a classroom teacher and later as an assistant to the principal in Glenview School District 34. She will now take her talents to North Palos District 117 where she was named the new assistant principal at Oak Ridge School.

She spent more than 10 years as a third-grade teacher where she presented student goal setting and RTI materials to district faculty; collaborated daily with various teams and support staff to coordinate instruction as the third-grade team leader and participated in a leadership role on numerous committees.

“All of my experience in the classroom has been incredibly beneficial to me as an administrator,” Ms. Stefan said.

She said she loves the outdoors and enjoys sports, especially volleyball, softball, all water sports and golf. In fact, she shot a hole-in-one eight years ago on a par 3 using a wedge. Ms. Stefan enjoys all forms of dance and recently took her passion to the ballroom dance floor. She also enjoys going to Chicago Cubs’ home games.

Ms. Stefan used to play for a nationwide women’s flag football league and helped raise more than $40,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.

“I’m so honored and excited to be part of the Oak Ridge team,” said Ms. Stefan, who lives in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. “I have a good feeling about this and it seems like a great fit.”
