New Principal and AP Named at Glen Oaks School

Carla Braun Stephanie Johnson

New Principal and AP Named at Glen Oaks

Glen Oaks’ Assistant Principal Carla Braun was named principal at the Hickory Hills’ school where she will take over for Kristin Reingruber, who took a principal position in another school district.

Dr. Braun worked with Mrs. Reingruber the last two years where they led a team that won the coveted National Blue Ribbon Award in 2019 for academic excellence.

Stephanie Johnson, who has served as the team leader and a technology instruction coordinator at Sorrick School in Palos Hills will take over for Braun as assistant principal at Glen Oaks.

Dr. Braun said she is both “humbled and excited” about the opportunity to continue working with the amazing teachers and staff at Glen Oaks while continuing to make an impact on the North Palos District 117 community and keeping expectations high.

“It truly is an honor to be part of this amazing district,” Braun said. “I have learned so much from Kristin these last two years and that knowledge will serve me well moving forward.”

Dr. Braun said she learned from Mrs. Reingruber to “remain calm and collected while dealing with any situation that may arise.” She said she also learned how to communicate effectively with staff and the community by watching her former boss.

“Any question I had, Kristin was my go-to,” Braun said. “It’s definitely sad to see her go, but I wish her all the best.”

Dr. Braun grew up in Willow Springs and moved with her family to New Lenox when she was in third grade. She graduated from Lincoln-Way Central High School.

She earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of St. Francis in Joliet where she played tennis. Braun earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from St. Francis. She earned her Doctoral Degree in Curriculum and Instructional Leadership from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

Dr. Braun said she is also excited to partner with Mrs. Johnson who she said she worked with at the district level and during summer school at Glen Oaks. “Stephanie has done amazing work at Sorrick as a team leader and as a technology instruction coordinator. She is loved and respected here at Glen Oaks.”

Braun and her husband, J.R. Entsminger, also an elementary school principal, have a 4-month-old daughter Alessia. The couple also have a 4-year-old dog named Rey after the female character in Star Wars.

The couple enjoy walks, working out and spending time with family.

For Stephanie Johnson this is a homecoming of sorts. She has spent all but two years of her teaching career at Glen Oaks where she has taught second, third and fourth grades for a combined 12 years before spending the last two years as a team leader/technology coordinator.

“Glen Oaks is where my heart is,” she said. “I am so excited to be coming back to where it all began.”

Mrs. Johnson grew up in Downers Grove where she currently lives with her husband Aaron and their 2-year-old golden retriever, Tesla.

She attended the College of DuPage for two years before transferring to Eastern Illinois University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Mrs. Johnson completed her Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and earned her Type 75 at Concordia University in Oak Park.

Since her arrival in North Palos, she has spent the last decade serving on various leadership teams. “I always hoped to someday become an assistant principal and then a principal,” she said.

She said she is excited about working with Dr. Braun and the entire staff at Glen Oaks.

Mrs. Johnson said she and her husband and their dog enjoy going into the city of Chicago and taking in the attractions, including the pet-friendly dog parks and dog beaches.

She also is a classic car buff who manages numerous classic car shows on weekends during the summer. One of the shows she coordinates is the one held during the Palos Hills Friendship Festival.

“I started passing out fliers for the shows when I began teaching as a summer job,” Mrs. Johnson said. “Now I’m running them and it’s a lot of fun.”

Mrs. Johnson said she “is excited to get back to Glen Oaks where it all began for her at North Palos 117.”
