COVID-19 Reported at Oak Ridge School

September 15, 2020

Dear Families and Staff of North Palos School District 117:

This letter is to inform you that one individual at OAK RIDGE SCHOOL received results as to having tested positive for COVID-19. This individual has not been a part of the school environment during the time frame to warrant investigation or conducting contact tracing since the individual has not been attending school during this designated time frame.  We have reported this information to the COOK COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH. Oak Ridge School will continue to remain open at this time.

NORTH PALOS SCHOOL DISTRICT 117 continues to monitor the information received from the daily self-certification process. Several students and staff have been excluded from school based on the information in the daily health screenings. This proactive approach to minimize the pandemic’s impact on the school community by following the established guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and the Illinois Department of Public Health is paying off. Today’s reported case is an example of the person being previously excluded from school and quarantined; creating no exposure to the school environment.

Today’s notification is also a testament to the district’s transparency pertaining to the reporting of positive cases. While there was no possible exposure to the students and staff in this instance, we do endeavor to keep our community informed.

The school district also wishes to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible staff who report to work each day so that the kids of the Hickory Hills, Bridgeview, and Palos Hills communities may continue to receive the best education possible. The perseverance and focus of our educators is a great example for our students.

As always, everyone should monitor their health and stay at home if they develop symptoms. Sick persons should contact their health care provider to determine if testing is needed. Anyone who develops severe symptoms should seek medical care immediately. If your child has had close contact with a known case of COVID-19, keep the child at home and notify your primary healthcare provider, the North Palos School District COVID Team at [email protected], and your local health department.

We are committed to providing your child and our staff with a safe and healthy environment. Thank you for your continued understanding and ongoing cooperation.
