On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, North Palos School District 117 marked a major milestone in its commitment to early childhood education with a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the grand opening of the renovated Sorrick School and the relocated Dr. Ken Geraghty Administration Building.
The extensive renovations at Sorrick School were designed specifically to support full-day Kindergarten and centralize the district’s entire preschool program under one roof. The upgraded facility features six brand-new Kindergarten classrooms and an 11-room preschool wing equipped with specialized accommodations tailored to early childhood learners.
To make room for these vital student-centered additions, district administration offices were relocated to a newly renovated facility located directly south of Sorrick School on the same campus.
After some initial remarks from Superintendent - Dr. Christine Droba, Sorrick Principal - Mrs. Stephanie Johnson, Preschool Program Coordinator - Ms. Nena Awad, and Palos Hills Mayor - Mr. Gerald Bennet, the ribbon was officially cut. Afterwards, families, community members, and school staff toured the facilities to see firsthand how the district transformed the campus to serve the community’s growing needs.
